What we do
Place Ecologies works at the intersection of research, practice and community to regenerate relationships between people and place. We apply living systems thinking to the way places are designed, governed and inhabited. We move beyond extractive, growth-focused models toward place-based alternatives that are ecologically grounded and community-led.
We evolved from the Tourism CoLab, founded in 2018 to ask uncomfortable questions about what tourism is really for. Over time, those questions grew bigger than tourism. They became questions about place itself: who belongs, who decides, and what it means to inhabit a place well.
Our work
Research & thought leadership
Thirty years of field experience. Named places. Real communities. Not generated. Based on decades of research, placed-based experience.
Practice
Coaching, mentoring and advisory for place practitioners, businesses and communities ready to work differently. Grounded in the field with experience across Australia and internationally.
Community and networking
Connecting researchers, practitioners and changemakers through events, programs and shared learning. A community of people who believe places deserve better.
Workshops and retreats
Spaces for thinking together, in places that matter. For practitioners, teams and communities ready to go deeper. Not a course, but the experience of thinking holitsically.
